7 Roll out some white flowerpaste, leaving a thick ridge for the wire. Cut out the petal shape using the wing template on p 140 and cut around it with a scalpel. Insert a moistened 26-gauge white wire into the thick ridge of the petal so that it supports a third to half the length of the petal. Pinch the base of the petal down onto the wire to neaten it and secure it in place. Soften the edge with a ball tool.

8 Place the petal into the wide petal veiner from the moth orchid veiner set. Press firmly to texture the surface. Remove from the veiner and pinch slightly at the base and the tip to create a little movement in the petal. Repeat to make a second petal – a mirror image of the first.
